The Hidden Genius Project and Fam 1st Family Foundation present Youth Tech in the West
For the past several years, The Hidden Genius Project and Fam 1st Family Foundation have been collaborating to expose young people in and around Oakland to a wide array of technology pathways and skills. For AfroTech, they are teaming up with the David E. Glover Emerging Technology Center to engage local community youth in a dynamic experience featuring activities related to user experience/interface design, basic programming, emerging technology, and entrepreneurship.

We welcome passionate adult volunteers looking to inspire young people to leverage tech to pursue their own passions and reveal their innate genius. Expertise in content areas appreciated but not required.

We anticipate 50 or so young people (possibly more), and the event should run 5-7pm.

Get the Money You Need to Scale Your Dreams
You know what you want to build, but do you have the money to make it happen? Often times, the number one thing holding people back from launching a business is finances. Many people don’t have the money they need to quit their jobs, hire a team, and focus their time on growing a business. Most people also don’t realize that many of the founders they see winning at business are using investors’ money to make it happen. In this one-hour event, the CEO of Founder Gym and one of Silicon Valley’s leading fundraising coaches, Mandela SH Dixon, will train you on how to secure the money you need to scale your dreams.

Started From the Bottom, Now You're Here
Many entrepreneurs dream about huge success but may not adequately plan for it. They get past the “idea at the kitchen table” stage and feel a huge sense of momentum and accomplishment. Rightfully so! Yet, they often freeze or begin seeing all their hard work quickly become insufficient for the next phase (building an executive/professional team, transitioning their own role, thinking strategically vs. tactically, raising capital, and working with a Board and/or advisors). This session will cover techniques and common pitfalls from an experienced CEO who has successfully scaled numerous businesses in rapid growth mode.

The 7 Must Have’s for Building Valuable Product and Services
Many entrepreneurs (regardless of type of business) don’t anticipate and plan for their success or know how to tap into resources to help them scale.  They get past the “idea at the kitchen table” stage and feel a huge sense of momentum.  Yet, often they freeze or worse yet all their hard work goes down the drain from a lack of preparation for the next phase (building a team, raising capital, transitioning their role, thinking strategically vs. tactically, etc).

How Blockchain Can Bring Wealth Equity
As technology advances, the opportunity to build wealth becomes gradually more accessible, particularly for communities of color. However, due to the many systemic inequalities and the exclusive nature of the technology market, many people of color do not get exposed to the opportunities early enough to take advantage of them. This session focuses on actionable ways marginalized communities can leverage blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies now to get ahead in tech (and rebuild their communities).
